This is the literal meaning of the word, “Nauvoo”, which was once the nickname for Sea Bright’s small cluster of wooden shacks nestled among the tall grass-topped sand dunes of the barrier beach in the 1840’s.
Nowadays, Sea Bright is known for its exclusive beach clubs and stunning restaurants. They have seven beach clubs, and even a doggie daycare center! There is always a spot to search for seashells, sea glass, and catch some rays without paying, too, because Sea Bright is home to 7 free public beach access ways on Ocean Avenue. This cozy and friendly town is home to 1,818 people occupying 1,003 households. Much of the population in Seabright consists of non-families with only 11% of households having children 18 or younger in the home. Seabright is an incredibly active and social town with waterfront attractions providing excellent nightlife entertainment. In the warmer seasons, residents flock to the streets to run, bike ride and rollerblade. Exercise and outdoor activity is also popular on the boardwalks of neighboring beaches. The median age is 40 and the median household income is $65,563.
Public school students in Kindergarten through eighth grade attend the Oceanport School District. Schools in the district are Wolf Hill Elementary School, Kindergarten through 4th grade; and Maple Place Middle School, grades 5 – 8. For grades 9 – 12, public school students attend Shore Regional High School, a regional high school that serves students from Monmouth Beach, Sea Bright, Oceanport and West Long Branch. The high school is part of the Shore Regional High School District.
Sea Bright was formed by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Shrewsbury River on the other. It is the southern half of a barrier beach which is the Sandy Hook Peninsula. Only an hour and ten minutes from New York City, this sandy stretch of the Jersey Coast has a heritage centuries old.
